Where do you put a temperature sensor?

Assuming you are referring to a temperature sensor for a home, the most common place to put the sensor is on an exterior wall. This allows the sensor to get an accurate reading of the temperature outside.

Where is the cooling fan sensor located?

On most vehicles, the cooling fan sensor is located on or near the radiator. It monitors the coolant temperature and turns the cooling fans on when necessary.

Does the temperature sensor control the cooling fan?

One of the most common questions we get here at Cooling Fans HQ is whether or not the temperature sensor controls the cooling fan. The answer, unfortunately, is a bit complicated and depends on a few factors. Let's break it down.

First, it's important to understand how a cooling fan works. Most fans are controlled by what's called a thermal switch, which is activated when the engine reaches a certain temperature. The switch then turns on the fan, which pulls air through the radiator and helps cool down the engine.

Now, in some cases, the temperature sensor can indeed control the cooling fan. However, this typically only happens in vehicles that have electronic control over their cooling fans (usually newer models). In these cases, the sensor tells the computer when to turn on and off the fan based on engine temperature.

However, in most cases (particularly with older vehicles), it's actually the thermostat that controls when the cooling fan turns on and off – not the temperature sensor. The thermostat monitors engine coolant temperature and activates/deactivates the cooling system accordingly; this includes turning on/off the water pump and opening/closing valves as needed, as well as activating/deactivatingthe cooling fan. So even though your temperature sensor may be telling you that your engine is getting hot, it's actually your thermostat that will ultimately decide whether or not to turn on your cooling fan.

What temperature should a fan switch be on?

There is no definitive answer to this question as it depends on a number of factors, including the type of fan, the size of the room and the climate. However, as a general rule of thumb, most fans should be switched on when the temperature reaches around 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius).
